My personal opinion is that if you look hard enough you can find someone who has had negative reactions to every drug, herb and supplement that exists.
Personally I would take an herb over a drug any day and I feel most supplements are safe and effective.
The fact is that many Lymies are serotonin deficient. It is the nature of the infection. A lack of the B vitamins and especially B 6 will eventually cause a serotonin deficiency. And if you have G.I. problems from Lyme, bartonella or parasites etc. that will compound the problem.
A lack of adequate serotonin can cause 3 major problems -- increases pain sensitivity and causes anxiety and has a negative effect on sleep.
The main problem for Lymies is that they also have brain inflammation. If the brain inflammation is severe then adding in B6 or 5HTP or l-tryptophan can be problematic, but there is a way around that.
The reason it could be a problem is that in the presence of brain inflammation the body uses the serotonin for an alternative use. The serotonin is diverted by an alternative pathway and produces quinolinic acid. This is a neurotoxin.
Early in his illness, before he was diagnosed hubby had a test which showed elevated quinolinic acid in the bloodstream (docs never tested it in the CSF). A doc had him try taking 50 mg of 5HTP every hour or so to slow down tremors. It would stop the tremors for maybe half an hour and then hubby would feel worse than ever. Needless to say this experiment only lasted a day or two.
The Healing Lyme book discusses the elevated quinolinic acid. There is a journal article on this also in regards to Lyme patients.
The solution is to take resveratrol -- it blocks the alternative pathway and prevents the conversion to quinolinic acid. Discussed in the Healing Lyme book.
Hubby had bad experiences with all the SSRI's he tried, probably for the same reason he couldn't take the 5HTP.
By taking Resveratrol hubby can take 5HTP and or l-tryptophan and sleep like a baby. Actually all he has needed for probably the last 6 months is B6 and melatonin although he still takes resveratrol.
He has replenished his normal stores of serotonin and does not need those supplements any more.
Hubby had many amino acid tests and also neurotransmitter tests done during the first 3 or 4 years of his illness. The SSRI's never raised his serotonin metabolites, but the 5HTP and l-tryptophan did and this was even before he started using the resveratrol.
All an SSRI does is try to keep a dwindling supply of serotonin active -- it does not try to replace the supply the way herbs and supplements do.
The other piece of the puzzle is that B6 is required to help either use or absorb magnesium -- forget which.
The supplement you are taking has a good mix of ingredients. However, it actually has very low doses of everything. Hubby takes 50 mg P5P for example and most herbal capsules such as the gingko normally are 500 mg capsules.

Il y a aussi un équivalent moins cher ("LB Core Protocol" de "green dragon botanical")

Mais pour moi c'est l'explication que je cherche depuis 10 mois à mon taux explosé d'excitotoxicité (labo Ph Auguste).
